Feminism, the LGBT community, and Porn

Got your attention? Good. The term “community,” like in the phrases “feminist community” and “LGBT community” remains ambiguous and debatable in meaning, because of the varying viewpoints and degree of association from people who align themselves with the issues. There are certain subcategories in these larger groups based on disagreements, so that while everyone in the LGBT community may argue for same-sex marriage, they may argue with each other about the best way to achieve that, the role (if any) of religion, and the rhetoric to employ. This shouldn’t surprise anybody, much less on the internet, where groups of millions came come together for the mutual love of Star Trek only to descend into hatred over the superior attributes of certain captains of one USS Enterprise.I don’t find it surprising that people who identify as feminists tend to support LGBT rights and vice versa. Minority group (in regards to treatment and laws and not necessarily percentage of the population as in the case of women in the US) solidarity is nothing new. Each of these groups has common enemies they have to rally against for goals, which, while different in their specifics, are the same in the broadest sense: equality and equal representation. Feminism exploded in the national consciousness at the same time that LGBT visibility did, with the ideas of first wave feminism being particularly outdated and allowing for the second one in the 60s. Since then, the groups many a times overlap. Reasons include:
