Cleaning your sex toy

Learning how to properly clean your sex toys is one of the most important things you can learn about them. Bacteria and various diseases can remain in the pores and/or on the surface of  your sex toys if you do not thoroughly clean them. While the odds of transmitting a disease like Chlamydia via an un-cleaned sex toy decreases with each passing day it is unused due to its inability to live outside of a host body for long, it is still a possibility so you need to take proper precautions.

Sex toys should be cleaned not just after each use, but beforehand as well. This is not only a hygiene thing, it helps increase the lifespan of your sex toys so that you do not have to spend money replacing them quite as often. When it comes to the actual process of cleaning your sex toys, there are different methods to match the different materials used to construct each. If you are ever in doubt and still have the packaging your sex toy came in, there should be cleaning instructions provided by the manufacturer on the box or inside.

A nearly universal sex toy cleaning solution is a heavily diluted bleach/water solution. Allow your sex toy to soak for a few minutes, remove, and then dry thoroughly – air drying is not the best thing for most sex toys. There are specially designed antibacterial solutions you can purchase from nearly all stores or online venues that sell sex toys, or in a pinch you can use a mild soap with lukewarm water to kill pretty much anything that may be hanging around on your sex toy.

There are a Few materials which are easy to wash which are commonly used to make sex toys. Anything that is made of glass or silicone can withstand very high temperatures, so if you want to be extra safe you can clean those items in the dishwasher or even boil them in a pot on your stove top for about 45 seconds once the water has reached a boil. If however you are using a cyber skin sex toy then you need to use the cleaner sold specifically for that material or will be degrade far faster than under normal circumstances.

Hardwood sex toys can be cleaned with soap water. After cleaning, it is a good idea to apply a layer of an antibacterial hand sanitizer. It goes without saying that before you clean any sex toy that uses batteries, they need to be removed. Once you have finished cleaning your sex toy and towel dried it, you can replace the batteries with no worries. Also keep in mind that latex, cyber skin, or rubber sex toys should ideally be stored in a cool dry place that has little or no direct sunlight so the toy does not dry out and develop spider web style cracks.

If you are sharing a sex toy with a partner, it is highly advised that you use a condom on the toy. This helps prevent the transmission of anything your partner may have, and is particularly important if you are with a new partner you do not have an accurate sexual history on. After you have used the condom, dispose of it.

Use common sense and make cleaning your sex toys a part of your routine. It only takes a couple minutes in most cases to get them clean and ready to use safely again. It is good for you, your partner, and in the long run it saves you money because a clean sex toy is a long lasting sex toy.
