Lest We Forget

4 May

I saw this picture on the HuffPo and found it incredibly touching, despite my strong anti-military, pro-pacifism beliefs. It’s Leonard Matlovich’s tombstone.I was going to include Kipling’s Recessional with the picture, but he repeats God and Lord so many times, I find it irritating. Besides, I think Mr. Matlovich who lived through the AIDS crisis and died of it in 1988, would prefer W.H. Auden’s, Stop all the clocks. So this is to honour Mr. Matlovich and all of the victims of the AIDS epidemic.Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,Silence the pianos and with muffled drumBring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
